FAQ
-
What makes the IB Chemistry Clinic different from other IB tuition centres? The IB Chemistry Clinic specialises in guiding IB students, taking into account the unique nature of the syllabus and the specific demands of the IB diploma. The IB diploma incorporates “essential ideas” for each topic, which are enduring interpretations that are considered part of the public understanding of science. Our tutors will impart not only the Understanding sections students need to know, but also the Applications and skills relevant to not only their Chemistry syllabus, but also in Theory of Knowledge. Examples covered during Chemistry class can be linked to preparing for the prescribed essay in Theory of Knowledge. By mastering content during Chemistry classes, students will be able to amass Theory of Knowledge examples to help them write their TOK essays and bolster their epistemological arguments. Furthermore, the level of support provided to IB students by the tutors at the IB Chemistry Clinic is unparalleled.
-
How will the tutors tackle the new developments in the IB syllabus? The tutors keep abreast with the latest developments in the IB syllabus through various networks and connections. Since the syllabus is changing, and there will be new criteria for students taking the May 2025 IB programme papers, the tutor will take note of these changes and implement them in the teaching of the IB Chemistry Clinic lessons accordingly.
-
How is a typical class at the IB Chemistry Clinic conducted?During the lesson, the tutor will explain the conceptual understandings required for the student to amass content knowledge to take their external assessments. When the student needs guidance for IA and/or EE, the tutor will follow up on the student’s progress from the start to the end, guiding the student from when they choose their research question, review existing literature, and then process their results. If students run into issues with their experimental setup in school, the tutor will guide their students on how to fix their experimental setup.
-
How will the tutor monitor the progress of the student? The tutor regularly seeks feedback from students about upcoming school tests and examinations and prepares them for those assessments. Subsequently, the tutor also studies the students’ test/examination answer scripts and analyses it thoroughly with them. This is to attribute their wrong answers to 7 common “sins” in the examination. Once the students know which “sin/s” contribute to the most marks loss, advice would be given to reduce the likelihood of committing such “sin/s” in future assessments. This method of analysis and feedback is one of the differentiating points of the IB Chemistry Clinic. It is highly individualised and extremely effective because when students identify which “sin” causes most of their mistakes, they can improve their academic performance across all subjects and not just in Chemistry. An improvement of 10-20 marks in such a post-assessment analysis and feedback between tutor and student is commonly seen.
-
Can students ask questions outside of class hours?Yes, students can WhatsApp the tutor outside of class hours with any pertinent questions they may have, and the tutor will do their best to reply to them as soon as possible.

-
Are there any hidden fees? The fees paid are inclusive of material fees. There will be no registration fee charged. The fees paid to the IB Chemistry Clinic include any softcopy of preliminary exams or IB exam papers the student needs.
-
What if my child has missed a lesson in a group class? If your child has missed a lesson in a group class, the recording of the lesson and the lesson notes will be emailed to them.
-
How are IB Chemistry Clinic tutors qualified to help IB students with the IA and EE?The IB Chemistry Clinic tutors have extensive research experience, having undertaken Chemistry at the undergraduate and the postgraduate level. Our tutors have had experience coaching secondary school and Junior College students in research projects for national level competitions. Furthermore, as our tutors have had extensive experience teaching the IB syllabus, they are well-equipped to guide students through project scopes, experimental procedures and the presentation of their results before submitting their IAs and EEs.
